The Habanera is one of the most famous arias from Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen, composed in 1875. Officially titled “L’amour est un oiseau rebelle” (“Love is a rebellious bird”), it is sung by the character Carmen in Act I. Bizet based the melody on a Cuban dance rhythm known as the habanera, giving the piece its distinctive and syncopated feel. I have arranged it for solo guitar and kept it in the original Key of D minor though it does modulate to D major. I have added a drop D as the piece has a D pedal throughout.
